In this article I will refer to this bar as the deadlift bar but in reality it is commonly known as a trap bar. The deadlift bar was designed specifically for deadlifts and shrugs. It provides a unique way of performing the lift with the majority of the weight being lifted from the centre of our body instead of the front. Which Bar is Best For The Deadlift?
It’s a tough question to answer. In theory both are going to give you results as long as you are training hard and maintaining a good diet. For me I would favour using a traditional Olympic bar to deadlift for the majority of my deadlift training but also feel the deadlift bar is a great alternative. The deadlift bar will help improve your traditional deadlift and add some much needed variety into your routine, blasting your muscles through a different range of motion.
If me or my gym had one I would incorporate it into my routine. The deadlift bar in my opinion turns the deadlift into a completely different movement. A very effective movement none the less. Your complete lower body is worked along with your forearms and far less stress is placed on the lower back, minimising the risk of back injuries.
